Book Club - The Production of Space Cont’d

bookclub3

How do we “make” space? From the construction of neoliberal territorial spaces (after Henri Lefevbre) to the Occupy WS movement to light and shadow in Japanese temples to cyber architecture.

Led by Jack Self

        Reading list for Session 4:

        • Tarzans in the Media Forest, Toyo Ito — 1996. Ito describes the virtual city that exists within (on top of?) the physical, and how it provides feedback loops to our own world.
        • In Praise of Shadows, Tanizaki — 1933. Borderline racist Tanizaki praises the white face of a geisha in a dark room, or the soft warmth of a shoji screen. Touchy-feely wabi-sabi.

Attendees of Book Club receive 20% off the reading list books at the   AA Bookshop

AA Members: the AA Library now have a shelf for the Book Club reading list books
